Ceda is een Creatie, geboren om te sterven. Wanneer de dag aanbreekt dat ze haar lichaam moet afstaan, beseft ze hoe graag ze wil blijven leven. Haar Maker helpt haar uit de instelling ontsnappen, maar buiten de vertrouwde muren wacht een verschrikkelijke waarheid. Arelle behoort tot de laagste klasse van de samenleving. Ze leeft elke dag in angst, wetende dat zij of haar geliefden voor orgaandonatie kunnen worden geselecteerd. Geleid door haar haat voor leider Derix Silas, besluit ze om mee te werken aan het plan van STORM, een organisatie die het systeem wil vernietigen.
Mijn eerste recensie
Hiep hiep hoera, mijn eerste recensie voor Reviews & Roses is een feit. Ik heb ervoor gekozen om Amarant te lezen omdat ik een groot YA en fantasy liefhebber ben. Heel graag wilde ik even een standalone lezen. Ik ben namelijk in een paar series bezig, maar soms is het fijn om af te wisselen.
Amarant
In Amarant word je meegenomen door Arelle en Ceda. Arelle is mens; gezond en lichamelijk fit. Ceda is een Imperial; gemaakt door de leider van Amarant. Wanneer Arelle erachter komt dat haar beste vriend is meegenomen door de Hoeders (bewakers) voor een orgaantransplantatie voelt ze steeds meer woede richting het systeem. Zij is namelijk mens en kan op ieder moment opgeroepen worden voor transplantatie van élk orgaan in haar lichaam. Haar orgaan gaat dan naar iemand van wie zijn organen het begeven door de ziekte SEOS. Ceda is gemaakt, een imperial. Door haar maker voelt ze zich speciaal en hij heeft plannen voor haar. Als Ceda haar leven bedreigd word, helpt haar maker haar ontsnappen. In haar jaszak vind ze een USB en een adres. En komt ze in een gevecht om in leven te blijven en niet gevangen genomen te worden. Maar waarom is zij anders dan andere Imperials? En waarom heeft haar maker haar helpen ontsnappen?
Goed geschreven
Op bovengenoemde vragen krijg je antwoord tijdens het lezen van Amarant. Voor mij krijgt het boek vier sterren omdat het goed geschreven is. Het taalgebruik is makkelijk. De personages en de wereld zijn goed omschreven en daardoor leest het boek heel lekker. Ook heeft dit boek dat je aldoor maar verder wilt lezen. Dat komt omdat je wilt weten wat er gebeurt als Ceda ontsnapt uit de instelling. En natuurlijk omdat je wilt weten wat er op de USB staat. Je wilt weten wie er te vertrouwen zijn en wie niet.
Eindoordeel
Ik heb genoten van Amarant. Het is precies de goede hoeveelheid spanning. Ik ben erg blij met hoe het boek eindigt. De vragen die je hebt tijdens het lezen worden uiteindelijk allemaal beantwoord. En je krijgt een klein inzicht in hoe het allemaal gaat na alle gebeurtenissen. Je krijgt een kleine kijkje in hoe het een paar maanden later gaat. En daarmee is het boek mooi afgerond.
